BCA iGrant

Overview

The Innovation Grant (iGrant) is set up to encourage and support the building and construction industry to conduct fast track, Proof-of-Concept (POC) type of R&D projects for subsequent quick deployment in a fast moving business environment.
The scheme facilitates the introduction of novel tools, methodologies and technologies that have high potential for mass scale market deployment. The key focus areas are:
  • Advanced Construction
  • Integrated Digital Delivery
  • Safety
  • Quality
  • Maintainability
iGrant allows industry to submit proposals on an ad-hoc basis via a 2-stage process.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. The company must be registered and based in Singapore
  2. The developmental projects must be carried out in Singapore
  3. The projects must not have obtained similar funding from BCA or other public agencies
  4. Applicants must show that they have the financial capacity to complete the project on their own, or with partners.
  5. Project(s) must not have commenced at the time of application.

Evaluation Criteria

  1. Innovative new design tools, methods & technologies
  2. Competency and track record of the applicant & project
  3. Degree of replicability and scalability & commercialisation potential
  4. Degree of impact to improve BCA’s strategic focus areas of building energy efficiency, construction productivity, safety, quality and maintainability.

 

Focus Areas

Advanced Construction

The scheme will focus on the adoption of innovative construction technologies, re-engineering of work processes and advanced materials.

Integrated Digital Delivery

The scheme will focus on the areas of digital design, digital manufacturing & fabrication, digital construction and digital asset delivery & management.

Safety

The scheme will focus on the safety of lift and amusement ride mechanisms, and coastal protection.

Quality

The scheme will focus on the adoption of smart sensing technologies and building systems and material analytics.

Maintainability

The scheme will focus on the improvement of obsolescent maintenance systems and equipment and adoption of smart inspection provisions/technologies.

Funding Support

Stage 1 co-funds up to 70% of the qualifying costs or $20,000, whichever is lower, to allow applicants to jump start their R&D projects quickly.
Stage 2 co-funds up to 70% of the qualifying costs or $250,000, whichever is lower.

How to Apply

Pre-Application

  1. Before you apply, check that you have met all the criteria stated above. Please direct all enquiries to the following email addresses: Darren_TY_LIM@bca.gov.sg and Lai_joon_kit@bca.gov.sg
  2. Download the form and prepare all the supporting documents.

Application of Stage 1 Proof-of-Concept Study

  1. Mail in the completed application form together with the supporting documents to:

  2. All proposals received will be assessed by BCA based on the evaluation criteria.
  3. All applications are subject to BCA’s final approval.

Commencement of Stage 1 and Application of Stage 2

  1. A Letter of Offer (Stage 1) will be sent to you once your application is approved.
  2. Written acceptance of the terms and conditions of the award signed by the applicant, must reach BCA within the stipulated date of Letter of Offer.
  3. The duration for Stage 1, from commencement of POC study to submission of POC study report, shall not exceed 3 months.
  4. BCA will assess the POC study report to ensure the deliverables are met and if the project is eligible for funding under Stage 2 Project Implementation.
  5. Application for Stage 2: Project Implementation is to be submitted to BCA together with the POC study report.

Commencement of Stage 2: Project Implementation

  1. A Letter of Offer (Stage 2) will be sent to you once your application for Stage 2 is approved.
  2. Written acceptance of the terms and conditions of the award signed by the applicant, must reach BCA within the stipulated date of Letter of Offer.
  3. During the Project Implementation period, you should ensure that :
    1. Proper project records are maintained; e.g. project timeline, deliverables, and progress reports.
    2. Proper financial records are maintained; e.g. invoices and receipts relating to the project.
  4. The duration for Stage 2, from commencement of Stage 2 to submission of final project report, shall not exceed 2 years.

Completion of Stage 2 project Implementation

  1. BCA will assess the final project report to ensure the deliverables are met.

Qualifying Costs

  1. Qualifying costs, inclusive of GST (where applicable), are:

    • Manpower-related costs
      • Salaries of personnel directly involved in the project
      • Training costs if training is a required part of the project
    • Equipment, material, consumables and software costs
      • Equipment
      • Consumables / Materials
      • Software
    • Professional Services
      • Consultancy
      • Subcontracting
      • Testing and certification fees
    • Intellectual Property Rights (to be considered on a case-by-case basis)
      • Licensing
      • Royalties
      • Technology Acquisition
    • Other Operating Expenses
      • Miscellaneous costs, eg  transportation cost for project meetings
